“SCRABBLE ONLINE”
Scrabble is basically a word game in which two or four players score points by forming words from individual lettered tiles on a game-board marked in a 15-by-15 grid. The words are formed across and down in a crossword fashion and therefore must appear in a standard dictionary. Official reference words like “The official club and tournament word list club, the official scrabble player’s dictionary usually provides a list of permissible words.
Game details
This game is played by two to four players on a square (or nearly square) board with a 15-by-15 grid of cells (individually known as squares), each of which has to accommodate a single letter tile. In official club and tournament games, the play is always between two players (or, occasionally, between two teams each of which collaborates on a single rack) to compete.
The board is normally marked with premium squares, which are to multiply the number of points awarded: eight dark red “triple-word” squares, 17 pink “double-word” squares, of which the center square is to be marked with a star or other symbol, 12 dark blue triple-letter squares, and 24 light blue double-letter squares. In the year 2008, Hasbro changed the colors of the premium squares to orange for TW, red for DW, blue for DL, and green for TL. But the original premium square color scheme is still the preferred color for Scrabble boards used in most tournaments.
Notation system
In the notation system which is common in tournament play; columns are labeled with the letters “A-O” and rows with the numbers “1-15”. On Scrabble boards that are manufactured by Mattel as well as on the internet scrabble club, rows are marked with letters while columns are numbered instead.) A play is usually identified in the format xyWORD score or WORD xyscore, where x denotes the column or row on which the play’s main word is extended to, y denotes the second coordinate of the main word’s first letter, and WORD is specifically the main word. Also unnecessary, and additional words formed by the play are occasionally listed after the main word and a slash. In a case where the play of a single tile forms words in each direction, one of the words is normally chosen to serve as the main word for the purpose of notation.
Whenever a blank tile is put in the main word, the letter that it has been chosen to represent is to be indicated with a lower case letter, or, in a handwritten notation, with a square around the letter. Parentheses can sometimes also be used to designate a blank, although this may appear to create confusion with a second optional function of parentheses, namely indication of an existing letter or word that has actually been played through by the main word.
Game-board formats .
This game has basicallybeen released in numerous game-board formats which have become appealing to various user groups. The first original boards included wood tiles but still many deluxe sets still do appear in wood.
An edition has therefore been released with larger board and letters for the players with impaired vision. The colors on the board appear more contrasting and the font size is increased from 16 to 24 point.
